For those still saying influenza is a much bigger killer than COVID-19 (SARS-COV-2), the numbers don’t support that argument, especially considering there are many deaths that strongly appear to be due to COVID-19 that are not reported as such because the deceased are not tested. The animation conveys the speed with which an exponentially increasing infection rate overtakes other, relatively linear rates of expansion.
Love it. The virus had a hard time beating out cancer there for a little while. That’s encouraging. Also, I like that I now have to worry less about dying in all the other possible ways, including my obsessive worry of getting stabbed in the back of the head waiting in the checkout line at a liquor store. — Paul

Now that a detail-oriented, more data-literate friend has looked at the visualization more closely, I’m adding her helpful comments here. Be sure to check out the Tableau link at the bottom: Two things I’ll mention to you both keep in mind when viewing this: 1. They are comparing average daily deaths for the top 15 causes of death to the actual daily deaths from covid-19. This is an apples to oranges comparison.
