Learning and teaching resources for children

Jonathan Warner, of ThinkerFit, contacted me after discovering our site. He wrote

My kids inspire me and are the reason behind this passion project. I thought that the potential benefit would be yours and to the people who will read the site’s content. It is my sincere hope that the information gets out there for people to learn from.

Among my personal acquaintances, several have children at home now due to COVID-19. Even in less challenging times, parents, children, and educators benefit from quality online learning resources. Because of its tendency to arouse curiosity and its hands-on opportunities, science is a naturally engaging domain for fun learning. Here’s the rest of Jonathan’s message:

Kids are obviously spending a lot more time at home these days, whether because they’re being homeschooled, aren’t able to go on as many playdates, or both. Surprisingly enough, the thing that has helped my kids stay occupied are science activities — this hasn’t historically been their favorite school subject, but they’re really loving observing, experimenting, and exploring the many areas of science.

Since science-based activities have been a huge help for my family these last few months (and well into the future, I’d imagine, since my kids can’t get enough of them), I thought I’d send you a few resources I’ve used with fun and educational science activities, in case you want to add them to a resource page on albuquirky.net to share with the parents who visit your site:

A Simple Introduction To The Scientific Method

K-12 Science Experiments That Parents and Kids Can Do At Home

22 Outdoor Science Experiments and Activities

Rocks for Kids – 15 Fun Activities and Ideas

Storm Spotting for Children: At-Home Meteorology

5 Offbeat Physical Science Experiments for Beginners

10 Great Biology Activities and Lessons

15 Meaningful Earth Day Activities for Kids

Educational Activities You Can Do at Home from the Smithsonian’s National Zoo

I hope your readers enjoy these as much as we have! By the way, educational online games have also been a lifesaver for us lately. If you’re interested, I’d be happy to write a guest article for your site that offers tips to parents on how to find online games that are safe and educational for cooped-up kids. I’ve written a few pieces on this topic for other sites already, so just let me know.

Best,
Jonathan
